#0027: School is not the best option for you kid

Education Next-Twenty seventh Edition

Reading time: 9.30 min

Hey 👋 - Hello, there!!

Have you thought if the school was not a must-do thing? Maybe you would have more time to spend with friends or family. Maybe you could go outside and play more. From childhood, children are told that it's the only way to get a good job, but what if you don't want a job? What if you want to be an artist or writer?

There are many reasons why a school might not be the best option for everyone. For some, it's simply a waste of time. They see no value in sitting in a classroom and listening to a teacher's lecture. They would much rather be out in the world, learning through experience. Others find the school environment to be stifling and constricting. They feel like they can't be themselves or express their true thoughts and feelings.

And then some simply don't do well in traditional schooling settings. They might have trouble sitting still for long periods, struggle to focus on one task, or be easily distracted. For them, the structure and discipline of school can be extremely frustrating.

One of my cousins never like the school, he would cry every time he had to get ready for school, he just didn't feel like it was for him. But there was no option for him, he had to go. He struggled on days they had celebrations in schools or sports days, he just didn't feel like participating. And as he grew up, his performance was affected as well. He just couldn't seem to catch up and do well in school, despite how hard he tried.

It was the same pattern in college as well, his parents paid huge to get him a seat in the college of their dreams, but he just didn't feel like it was the place for him. He would bunk classes, and not do well in the exams. Then COVID came and now everything was online, he was very comfortable attending his sessions online, and in fact, he was doing well. He was getting good grades and his parents were proud of him.

This just goes to show that not everyone is cut out of the traditional school system. And that's okay!

Why do children hate to go to school?

1) They are forced to wake up early in the morning.

2) They have to wear uniforms

3) They have to sit in classes all day long

4) They have to do homework every night

5) They are constantly being tested

6) They are surrounded by bullies

7) They are never allowed to just be kids

8) They have to deal with mean teachers

9) They miss their friends and family

10) They are just not ready for it

Conscious Bonding

One of the best ways to bond with your child is by talking about current events. Not only does this provide a platform for conversation and connection, but it also teaches them about the world around them.

Ask questions, listen to their answers, and engage in meaningful dialogue that encourages critical thinking skills. You can discuss topics from local news stories to global issues, such as climate change.

By talking about current events with your kids, you can show that their opinions and ideas matter, creating a stronger bond between the two of you. Not only does this provide a platform for connection and communication, but it also empowers them to understand the world around them.

My son enjoys talking about brands, social media trends, and news from all around the world. He loves to share his perspective on different topics and it has been a great bonding experience for us both. I have seen him grow more confident in his knowledge as well as an understanding of how these events can affect him and others.

How to help kids be aware of current events?

1. Encourage them to read newspapers, magazines, and other news sources.

2. Watch the news together as a family and talk about the stories.

3. Ask questions and listen to their answers.

4. Give them age-appropriate resources to help them understand more complex topics.

5. Talk about current events in everyday conversation.

6. Help them understand the context of current events and how it affects people’s lives.

7. Stay informed, so you can answer their questions accurately.

8. Share positive news with your kids to focus on solutions and progress.

9. Order children's newspapers for kids that focus on current events.

10. Let children follow the news they like. For example sports, fashion, business, etc

11. At the same time kids should not be forced to follow news and current events, it should be done in a fun way for them.

Recommendation of the week

I had the opportunity to meet Mr.Anmol a couple of days back and get a first-hand look into the amazing product that he has built, NewsAhoot for Kids. It's an interactive and educational platform that helps children to learn more about the world around them.

The app features various topics such as current affairs, sports, entertainment, science & technology, and much more. Each topic is presented in a fun and creative way, making it easy for kids to understand and engage with.

Parents are scared of introducing news channels to kids, due to the fear of exposing them to violence or negativity. However, NewsAhoot for Kids makes it safe and fun for children by having age-appropriate content. With NewsAhoot, parents can now get their kids to learn more about the world and its happenings securely.

Whenever there is an article uploaded, you get the notification on wats app and that makes it super easy to monitor what kids are learning.

The content is not just news but detailed information on each topic, which helps kids to develop their understanding of the world.

His vision is to make NewsAhoot a part of everyday life for kids, as they grow up so that they can be informed and aware of the things happening around them. To support this vision, Mr. Anmol is continuously working towards making more content available on the app and making it even more interactive and exciting for young minds.
