#0038: Why this mom left traditional school?

Education Next-Thirty eighth Edition

Reading time: 9.50 min

Hey !!👋

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. “

~Oscar Wilde

I met Elodie recently who is world-schooling her kids.

COVID helped Elodie realize that her children were able to continue their education in more interesting ways without a traditional school.

Rather than continuing with a traditional school curriculum, now they've been traveling around the world and learning through experiences.

Elodie says that world schooling has allowed her kids to gain a deeper understanding of the cultures, history, and languages of different countries, as well as giving them a broader perspective on the world.

How Learning Happens in Worldschooling

Her Kids learn with Boundless Life which is an alternative learning school for world schooling kids. The program helps her kids learn through real experiences and engage in a variety of activities such as volunteering, exploring, researching, and engaging with their local communities while they travel.

Boundless Life offers project-based learning to kids, the classroom size is small and it's inspired by the Finnish education system as Elodie describes.

They stay in a place for 3 months and spend time exploring, getting to know the place, and researching their projects.

They also volunteer in different communities during this period. Boundless offers personalized academia.

World schooling is an amazing way of learning and it has helped Elodie's family create meaningful experiences and memories together while they explore different places on the planet.

It is a great option for creative and adventurous families who are looking for an alternative approach to education.

Rediscovering the old Mario Game

It's a classic game that has been around for decades, and it still gets new updates even today. Adi discovers some of the hidden secrets in the game and shares his findings with other players.

Thanks to a friend of mine who sent us this game, first I thought Adi would not be interested as he has been playing racing games for a while but as I saw him playing it, I was surprised how easily he got the hang of it!

Adi went through the levels with ease and started exploring some of the secret passages which were fun to discover.

When I took the gaming remote I could not stop playing myself.

I was able to share my memories of playing the game with him and appreciate the nostalgia that comes from these old games.

We discussed how different gaming has become over the years, and even though new technologies have brought a lot of improvements to modern games, classic ones like this still bring back some good memories.

Adi was like ma, "I didn't know you played games as well"

In fact the whole family is glued to it now and Adi has to wait for his turn to play it!

It's been a great bonding experience for all of us and we are already planning our next game night with everyone. So much fun playing these classic games together!

Conscious Bonding

Bonding over Monthly Reflection

Life gets busy, we are chasing things. Discovering new things and making plans to reach goals. It can be hard to make time for our kids, but I believe it's important to spend quality time with them.

January just whizzed past us, so I thought it was a great time to ask my son what he learned and to also set intentions for the upcoming months.

We wrote all that be achieved in the month of January, Things we could not do, and those we could do. We also noted down our learnings and what could be done differently next time in order to achieve better results.

The first step in this process is to find a quiet space where you and your child can sit together without any distractions.

This could be a park bench, the end of your bed, or anywhere else that feels comfortable to both of you.

Once you are in this space, it’s time to reflect on what has gone well and what could have been done better over the last week or month.

This is not a time for criticism; rather, it’s an opportunity to reflect on mistakes and successes and discuss how these experiences have helped shape you both.

Things you might need:

Paper, pen/pencil

Music if you like

Journal or Notion (Find free templates in the blog)
