#0052: Education in 2060

Education Next- Fifty second Edition

Reading time: 9.30 min

Hey !!👋

This week let's read about:

  • Education in 2060

  • Adi and his microbit

  • What do you want to do when you grow up

Sal Khan the founder of Khan Academy was asked to make predictions about education in 2060.

Here are the predictions he made

Classrooms will be different

He says people sitting passively sitting in classrooms taking notes will change to active learning methods. The classroom will be called the project room.

Discovery-based learning will be more popular, Fact learning will still happen but it will happen when students themselves decide to do that.

Physical labor to Automation

The physical labor will go further down or might be completely down, the mental labor will be taken by automation.

People will be free to do more innovative things like creating new ideas and designing newer products.

Specialized learning will matter

Now the seat time for schooling is 12 years, plus 4 years of college which will move towards achievement-based learning where learners will decide how to learn, and what to master like being able to read music or being able to create art which is either by taking a specialized course or apprenticeship as needed.

There is no stopping point to learning, the achievements are high standard which means you are really good at it means you can apply your learning

The emphasis will shift from grade-based learning to portfolio-based projects like people's creations will matter like the software they wrote and the art they created.

Skills will matter more than grades

Employers will see beyond grades and school time, they will want to see projects that a person has created, and the difference they have made. Jobs will be based on the skill sets a person has and not just the degree they possess.

It will matter how hardworking a person is, how much can they persevere in difficult situations, and whether have they helped others in their course of learning.

The role of the teacher will change

Teachers will now be a coach, mentors, and facilitators as compared to knowledge givers. Now that students are learning at their own pace, students will be part of larger groups where they are learning from each other.

We will move towards a 99 percent literacy rate

With more students having access to world-class education considering they have an internet connection we might see more students being able to learn no matter what background they come from.

Education can take place anytime, anywhere through technology.

Learning With Adi

Adi received his microbit this week and was very excited to start exploring what he could do with it.

He looked up some tutorials online and quickly assembled his board and set it up.

He started experimenting with coding the microbit to make simple programs that would light up LEDs, display text, and react to button presses.

After a few hours of tinkering, Adi already had a few cool programs up and running. He was amazed at how much he had accomplished in such a short amount of time.

He is continuing to explore microbit by creating more complex projects, such as incorporating sensors that would measure temperature or react to sound.

He is looking to get creative with his coding and came up with fun games and activities involving his microbit.

I will keep you updated with his experiments on microbit

Conscious Bonding

Remember people asking you,

What you want to be as a kid

What did you say, doctor? astronaut? engineer?

I remember the pressure of saying that I wanted to be a doctor

because it was what my parents expected

and I could hardly figure out what I wanted to do

I can't remember enjoying something I liked

was it reading, writing, dancing, or something else?

because no one asked me what I wanted to do at that point in time

All the learning in childhood was for a job or work I had no idea about

I am sure still kids do not have much clue about why they are learning

children hardly get time to figure out the process

since everything is already paid and planned

the school, the curriculum, the after-school activities

As the kid moves to a higher grade it only gets tougher

AI tools to try this week

I was exploring AI story writing tools and found these, I have also attached a link to how we used it.
