Future of Living

Imagine a good neighbourhood where kids can learn from older kids, where families can plan weekends together; they can learn future skills together.

Imagine a world where schools are confined to four walls and extended to the surrounding community.

Learning is not limited to textbooks and exams but includes hands-on experiences and real-life projects.

A world designed, built and maintained with children at its centre is an inspiring vision and a practical necessity.

With rapid advancements in technology and globalization, our lives have drastically changed over the years.

The concept of home has also evolved from traditional family structures to modern nuclear families. And with this evolution comes a pressing need to prioritize and cater to the needs of children in our living spaces.

One of the critical elements of kid-centric living is inclusive and safe spaces for children.

This includes not only physical safety but also emotional and mental well-being.

Designing homes and communities with child-friendly features such as playgrounds, open spaces, and safe pedestrian walkways promotes physical activity and fosters social interactions.

Vikram Sarabhai’s Education

Yesterday, as I delved into the remarkable life of Dr Vikram Sarabhai with my son, we found ourselves utterly captivated by his early learning journey and unwavering passion for science.

His story unfolded like a tapestry of inspiration, each thread weaving together to create the incredible legacy we know today.

Yet, one aspect of his upbringing stood out as a shining beacon of educational innovation: Vikram Sarabhai was homeschooled and nurtured under the guiding principles of Montessori education.

In a world where traditional schooling often takes centre stage, the tale of how young Vikram's parents, Ambalal and Sarla, embraced unconventional educational philosophies to shape their son's brilliant mind is a testament to the power of innovative teaching methods.

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai was a visionary scientist and leader whose contributions spanned various fields, leaving an indelible mark on India's scientific and technological landscape.

Sarabhai’s Educational Background:

Growing up in a family with a solid intellectual and social conscience, Vikram was exposed to a rich educational environment from an early age.

As an integral part of their education, the Sarabhai family embarked on extensive vacations, accompanied by a retinue of servants, pets, and the entire teaching team.

Among all the subjects and activities, it was evident from a young age that Vikram Sarabhai held a particular affinity for the pure sciences.

His passion for science led him to work on ambitious projects, including building a functioning steam engine alongside the family's carpenter.

His parents recognised his potential and established a fully equipped mechanical workshop with tools like lathes, drills, and even a foundry, complete with an instructor.

This hands-on experience at the workshop and later involvement in the Physics and Chemical Laboratory would prove invaluable for crafting the instruments needed for his future scientific experiments and research endeavours.
