#180: Don’t Back Down!

Education Next- Hundred and eightieth Edition

Hello,

Welcome to my 180th newsletter!

When I first started my work to create awareness about homeschooling and alternate learning — to share that learning can happen beyond classrooms and that life itself can be our biggest teacher — I honestly didn’t know how far I would go.

I began by writing blogs, documenting stories, doing interviews, and traveling to meet families and learners who were walking similar paths.

It’s been a beautiful journey, but not an easy one.

There were many moments when I felt unsure — when I questioned whether I knew enough or if I could continue at all.

But through all of it, one thing stayed constant: I wanted to keep going.

Every time I thought I couldn’t continue, something small happened — a message from a reader, a meaningful conversation, or a new idea, a collaboration — and it reminded me why I started in the first place.

It’s not easy to travel, build a business, and support your child’s learning when you choose a non-traditional path.

I’ve felt that struggle deeply — and I know many others who have too.

You cut down expenses, you let go of things you might have wanted for yourself, because your priority becomes supporting your child’s learning in a different way.

It’s not easy, and that’s why many parents who choose this path struggle.

They try to build something meaningful while managing everything else — and the hardest part is making it sustainable.

That challenge never really goes away, but somehow, we keep going.

This journey has been unpredictable. I’ve taken advice, made changes, made plenty of mistakes, and tried again.

It hasn’t gone as planned — and maybe that’s the point.

If you’re walking a path that feels uncertain but still excites you, hold on to that feeling. Passion has a way of showing us the next step, even when the road isn’t clear.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
